The People’s Review of the Work Capability Assessment is written from the lived experience of sick and disabled people. It includes press reports of the suffering, even deaths, of those going through the process, plus information on what has been said about the WCA by the Government, MP’s, courts, professional bodies, medical organisations and individual medical professionals.

I have sent this report to my mp
Thank You! Whoever the woman is that has instigated, compiled & worked so hard to get this document written should be given a medal. I had my ESA stopped in March (2012) & have been forced to make a new claim, as I cannot declare myself a jobseeker & claim JSA as I am clinically depressed, getting worse by the day, to the point where I have lost faith in most everything. I had to go for a WCA last Friday, and hold out no hope. I have been without an income (except for Housing Benefit, which I have had to fight twice to get reinstated – having to ‘prove’ that I had no other income in order to start receiving it again. They allow me £450. My rent is £500.) I can’t even begin to explain it all here, but I just had to say thank you for this. I only hope that someone, somewhere in the depths of the government departments, remembers that we are all human beings here, just trying desperately to survive. First world problems…
Bless you, whoever you are. Thank you for speaking up for the frightened ones…
I’ve had my money stopped because I live with my husband I’ve got to live of his money or go back to work my body can’t handle it the hospital has said I’m unfit to work but atso have said other wise after full rent council tax and there bills not much left with 5 of us in the house I can’t afford to buy food for my kids I don’t no what a super market shop is any more we are getting to the stage were we can’t live anymore I have worked from the a 13years old until 14years ago and I’m now can’t get anything how bad is that
It’s terrible, Amanda, so many people in situations like yours. I know it sounds trite, but you need to talk to your MP, as our representatives need to know the reality of people’s lives. I so hope you find some help locally, you really do need it. I just feel so sorry I can’t help those who come to our site to see our research and campaigns.
Thank you to everyone involved, an excellent report, professional, informative and truthful!
Of all the critisisms of the WCA I have read, and made myself through representing clients with mental health difficulties, this report is the best researched and the most devastating I have read. How can Atos be allowed to continue? Don’t bother answering because, sadly,I know the answer!! Thank you.
Thank you, Chris! That’s a real encouragement as we’ve had quite a bit of criticism of our work. I take it you’re a benefits adviser or similar?
i think its disgraceful what this government are doing to us disabled people. i know there are a lot of people fit to work that have been on ib. surely if people have got medical evidence of their problems from gp, hospital, or back up evidence then that should be sufficient to say, yes that person is unfit to work. if you have got no evidence then you are obviously fit to work. its simple really
