I moved into my 3 bed house in 2010. Since then we have ceramic tiled and carpeted the downstairs of the house, and decorated. We have fitted new shower and tiled bathroom walls and floor. We have walled and paved garden and planted fruit trees. We did this as we expected this to be our forever home. We now have to move to a two bedroomed house if we can find one. Next year our son may move out when he finishes university (depending on where he gets a job) and we may be forced to move again. Surely people will stop having homes, just temporary locations until the next family change in circumstances. Who can afford to move twice in a year because I certainly cannot. This is what creates slums instead of friendly communities. Is this the governments intention? This will cost more in policing and healthcare in the future. What happened to an Englishmans home is his castle?

Prior to the 2nd world war the nationalist socialist party in Germany implemented this sort of discrimination with disabled & people with mental health problems. This resulted in many being locked up or sent to concentration camps or sent to the gas chamber. I think Cameron's government is trying to whittle away any human rights & dignity for people suffering from disabilities whether physical or mental. All the funding for support services have dried up. There is very little help out there. The suicide rate is rising. Its the gas chamber by the back door.

It occurs to me that perhaps we are going about this the wrong way. Perhaps we should all dress up in silly costumes and have 'Disabled Pride Parades'and if that doesn't work stamp our feet and throw hissy fits. That seems to be about the only damn way you get given any rights in this screwed up country.

It is disgraceful what this government is doing to the sick, disabled, & the poorer of society, 7 days ago, I was at my local hospital getting told that I have a tumour on my pancreas, and will need urgent referral to see a consultant at the royal Liverpool hospital, prior to major surgery to have it removed, if that was not bad enough I come home to a letter from my housing association to inform me that they are starting legal proceedings to evict me from 17th June, because I cannot afford to pay my £22 per week bedroom tax, I am 6 wks arrears. Hubby and I both also have chronic diseases I have ulcerative colitis, hubby has asthma & osteoporsis.

I have been in touch with my (Tory) MP, Mike Weatherley about the DLA being used as income. So, waiting to hear from him. My council are NOW saying they are NOT using my DLA as income!! Strange they have changed that since I complained!! I now have an exemption for 1 of my 'spare rooms'. For an overnight carer. So, that leaves 1 bedroom. Although it is my Son's room, whom is at Manchester University. And graduates this summer.

Steve, thank you for all the info. I have explained our problems in detail in response to "Accessofficer's" kind reply above. We are going to court and our situation is rather complex. One could not make it up, really.
To answer your queries specifically:
My husband is tricky, he largely refuses to engage with the system. He tries but it is very difficult for him. Sorting everything out and dealing with all the matters is left to me. I have just had a revised carer's assessment as I am simply at the end of my tether, there so much one can cope with. I have developed mental health issues myself and am on antidepressants, yet again. I have asked for certain services i.e. day support and occasional overnight care. I have addressed our housing needs but specifically an assessment of our housing needs has not been done. To be honest, I do not know what to fight first. The court case, my husband's illness, my increasing desperation, bedroom tax. All is a learning, mostly disheartening and very stressful curve…
